Same here. I think our last vintage ordered was 2005 or 2006.
I had no idea what The Third Twin was when I got the offer. The email does not describe the wine at all. Opened the attached letter and itās formatted like something out of a crime movie, e.g. those people who cut each letter out of a magazineā¦ in other words I couldnāt make it past the first sentence. I still donāt know what it is lol.

For first time buyers, is there any communication when wines are shipped? Email, letter, tracking number, anything besides checking this board?

Most often youāll get a shipping confirmation with tracking. I use the tracking to then redirect to a local UPS or FedEx so I donāt have to be home to sign for it.

Other than the tradition of sending a physical offer letter announcing the release and getting Manfredās notes on the wine, everything else including e-mails for order confirmation and shipping confirmation with tracking number is pretty much the same as everyone else.
We stopped buying WS a while back when the price kept creeping up. Theyāve been texting, emailing, etc.

I donāt think I bought Williams Selyem since 2014. About 2 years ago, I tried to make a tasting appointment there, thinking I would buy some again, and they denied me, saying that I hadnāt bought an allocation in 10 years. If I wanted to go there for a tasting, I would first have to buy an allocation. Naturally, I passed.
Now I just got the same email asking if I want to join again. Naturally, I passed.

Should email them back, attaching that denial email, and tell them your purchase is contingent on a tasting.

I couldnāt read it either. Itās as if someone sat down and decided to choose the most illegible font possible. They are too artsy fartsy for their own good.
When I looked at the priceā¦ easy pass. Especially considering I was kicked off the SQN list without any notification.
That email offering let me know, my business is the prize, not their wines.
A lot of wineries are about to be humbled.

The fake boobs and cocaine crowd still likes that exclusivity.
Interesting that what was once unique, personal and art driven is now seen by at least a few of newer generation as ott or trying to hard.
New folks should keep in mind that this isnāt something recent to fluff up a $2/300 wine. Itās been part of the uniqueness of the Krankelās since these were $60/80 wines in the 90ās.
Even though I donāt buy anymore Iām kind of disappointed to see that he has moved away from unique names for each vintage.

I also just got an email āInviting me to rediscoverā their wines and linking me to my allocation. I havenāt bought off their list in literally over a decade. I did not take them up on their offer either.
It doesnāt help (them) that they are definitely a winery that I feel Iām able to buy what I want with attractive amounts of age on secondary, and at a significant discount to their list, pretty easily. At least with some others, theyāre obscure enough where they donāt come up on secondary often, or their list prices are reasonable enough that, even if thereās a deal with someone clearing out their cellar, I donāt feel punished when I order off the list too.

You flipped your first (only?) SQN purchase immediately after receiving it. No secret that SQN will remove you for that.

I donāt think thatās it. Either way, itās my damn wine I waited 10+ years for.
They have always been clear about it. If they find you are flipping, they remove you from the mailing list.
They agree that it is your wine after purchase and you are free to do whatever you want with it. As they are free not to sell to you any more, preferring to sell to drinkers.

I get your point and maybe Manfred felt personally insulted I parted with some of his āartā so you may be right.
I still have a case or so in the cellar and do drink plenty so please donāt lump me in with flippers because I sold some of my wine.
Interesting that my money wasnāt good and now suddenly theyāre begging for it. Even doing so from people who havenāt bought in over a decade. I think that says plenty.
