WA 193: discuss

Surprised there was not more NorCal coverage. Pretty much the same Sonoma producers as usual and almost no Napa wines that were left out from the last issue. Had a few producers I hoped would get covered this time. Oh well. That is the last RMP reviewed new Cali we will ever see.

Carlisle overall down. Aubert & Peter Michael rocking the white (legal) stuff. No super love for Rhys. Littorai reviewed but not praised. Bedrock low 90’s. [snort.gif]

Weak SCM coverage…the usual suspects

I don’t think RMP is that relevant in Sonoma coverage any more. Low scores in Rhys might have been a death sentence for other wineries in the past, not any more.
I am very happy to buy all the low scoring wines in this issue. The only exception, I will still buy Marcassin’s 100 point 2008 Chard!

I don’t read this “WA” publication of which you speak. What scores did this RMP fellow give to the Rhys wines?

87-88 for Rhys’ most sought after 2009 Pinot

In the 87-94 range, with most in the 91-93 range. I am not that surprised. RP is pretty clear about the kind of Pinots he will score highly and what he is looking for in them. Littorai (86-93) and Kutch (89-94) are in the same scoring boat.

If you know the producers well and also know RP’s tastes, it is not hard to make the scoring adjustments in your head.

Carlisle had 6 or 7 wines 95 or better and only one wine under 90. What did they get last year? Straight 98s?

newhere

Interesting. Then again, it in no way deters me from purchasing Rhys wines.

Five of the eight 2009 Rhys wines scored in the 91-94 range, so I’m not sure I agree with the general characterization in this thread.

Then again, it in no way deters me from purchasing Rhys wines.

Do the high Parker scores deter you then? [cheers.gif]

No mention yet of the complete lack of Burgundy reviews we were promised for the 3rd month in a row, so I’ll throw the gas on that fire. What’s up with that???

Busted! blush

For the Rhys wines, most of them ought to be barrel sample scores, no?

16 of the 20 Bedrock wines that Parker has reviewed received 90 or higher, including every one of the 2009 Bedrocks.

Wine Spectator also scored 7 of the 11 Bedrock wines it reviewed in the 90s, and 10 of the 11 got 88 points or higher.

What a bunch of point whores we Berzerkers are! grouphug

-Big bump up for a 2008 Verite.
-Some nice love for the esoteric house of Kalin Cellars and their current releases of 1995 Chardonnay and 1998 Semillon.
-The 2007 Marcassin Blue Slide Ridge struck me as getting a beautiful writeup yet a score that did not nearly match.
-Morlet Family Vineyards could be the next “it” winery.

No house of Pott?

I am +1 to all those who effectively said they expected more in the California coverage.

This was a big headline for me - Parker signs off his CA coverage with his one and only 100 pt CA chard. Should stir the pot with all the folks who responded unsuccessfully to the recent mailing list addition…

not quite

the 1997 Marcassin Chardonnay Marcassin Vineyard was awarded 100 points in the January 2000 issue then down graded to 97 in the next.
