Surprised there was not more NorCal coverage. Pretty much the same Sonoma producers as usual and almost no Napa wines that were left out from the last issue. Had a few producers I hoped would get covered this time. Oh well. That is the last RMP reviewed new Cali we will ever see.
Carlisle overall down. Aubert & Peter Michael rocking the white (legal) stuff. No super love for Rhys. Littorai reviewed but not praised. Bedrock low 90’s.
I don’t think RMP is that relevant in Sonoma coverage any more. Low scores in Rhys might have been a death sentence for other wineries in the past, not any more.
I am very happy to buy all the low scoring wines in this issue. The only exception, I will still buy Marcassin’s 100 point 2008 Chard!
In the 87-94 range, with most in the 91-93 range. I am not that surprised. RP is pretty clear about the kind of Pinots he will score highly and what he is looking for in them. Littorai (86-93) and Kutch (89-94) are in the same scoring boat.
If you know the producers well and also know RP’s tastes, it is not hard to make the scoring adjustments in your head.
No mention yet of the complete lack of Burgundy reviews we were promised for the 3rd month in a row, so I’ll throw the gas on that fire. What’s up with that???
-Big bump up for a 2008 Verite.
-Some nice love for the esoteric house of Kalin Cellars and their current releases of 1995 Chardonnay and 1998 Semillon.
-The 2007 Marcassin Blue Slide Ridge struck me as getting a beautiful writeup yet a score that did not nearly match.
-Morlet Family Vineyards could be the next “it” winery.
This was a big headline for me - Parker signs off his CA coverage with his one and only 100 pt CA chard. Should stir the pot with all the folks who responded unsuccessfully to the recent mailing list addition…
