Vitamins or supplements to take before wine / dinner party to help from not feeling so great the next day?

Hi

Later this week I will be attending a wine tasting / dinner party.

Are there any vitamins and or supplements or other that would help with not feeling so great the following day?

at a point there is nothing that’s going to work, acetaldehyde is functionally a poison and byproduct of the metabolic process, you can somewhat mitigate the effects by diluting and slowing down the metabolic process with food and water. If there was a cure or even a reliable product to reduce the effects someone would be a billionaire by now

Zbiotics works quite well.

these guys once sold during Berserker Day and I got some for my wife - she loves sugar/gummy candies. but she never really drinks more than 1-2 glasses, so cannot speak to the effectiveness of the product

+1 on zbiotics - it has been a complete game changer for me.

It uses genetically engineered bacteria to breakdown acetaldehyde in the gut:

Proper 2-day pre-game routine helps too :stuck_out_tongue:

The best remedy from hangover is in the morning to drink a little bit of the same stuff you drank at the party. Works like a charm, tested multiple times after cheap vodka hangovers.

Interesting. If anyone wants to refer zbiotic looks like we both get $20. I’m willing to try it! DM me pls.

I found Zbiotics to work well…up to a point. I was recently on a trip with some college buddies and someone brought a box of these. The nights that our consumption was reasonable, they worked pretty well. The one night we went hard, I still felt like a pile of garbage the next morning. Also being 54 and drinking like you’re 24 - not recommended in any event.

A more accessible option (like you can go buy at any grocery store vs mail order) that I’ve found to be pretty effective is to take a probiotic before consuming wine. I know some people who also swear by taking activated charcoal capsules beforehand.

Z biotics work well.

Cheers and Flyby both work fairly well, and are a lot less expensive on a per-use basis than Zbiotic (which is about $10 per application).

To @Greg_Gardner 's comment, any of these work “to a point.” They just help make it better, they don’t guarantee no effects of any amount of drinking.

I’m fortunate to be very good as far as not having hangovers unless I really drink a huge amount, but the biggest thing those products do if I take them is help me sleep better that night, reducing (but not necessarily eliminating) the running hot, tossing and turning middle of the night.

Go for it! I’ve referred half a dozen berserkers already. I think I’ve gotten nearly $400 in credits between friends and family and berserkers.

I just learned about the benefits of coffee for liver health this summer on Peter Attia’s podcast interview with a liver researcher/specialist. Not sure I necessarily feel better after indulging, but it’s nice to know that my coffee addiction has more side benefits : ) Sample research paper link here

Zbiotics didn’t work for me at all. :frowning:

I’ll cast my vote for Vitamin B Complex. Cheap, widely available, and effective (for me).

I am another Zbiotics failure. Sorry @MChang

Perhaps it helps with my liver function. But if I overindulge, it doesn’t help with my feeling unwell the next morning.

What works best for me is mindfully consuming one glass of sparkling water for every unit of alcohol when I drink.

funny to see zbiotics get so much play. their marketing is superb and a lot of tech bros i know swear by it. over 3 experiences my take is that it didn’t do anything, but also … it didn’t do anything. so no real risk i guess?

barrier to entry is very low so give it a try and see. with so many variables, it’s impossible that one thing would work across the board.

i do believe that psychology plays a huge part. if you go in with intention of an outcome, you’re more likely to realize that outcome.

We did a pretty extensive double blind with zbiotics. I found it worked for me. Others in our home experiment found it did not.

My routine for a large event: Zbiotics before event, lots of food, water constantly, and electrolyte mix (have not optimized, but use my running stuff) as last drink of the night. Works good for me

Mindset makes a difference in many ways. I doubt I’m the only one who experiences fewer day-after effects on vacation, even when I’m drinking more.

It is a placebo anyway so not surprised.

by far the most likely explanation. which is further supported by the price.
