Visiting Madrid - One day for wineries - Where?

I will be visiting Madrid later this summer and I have one day available to visit wineries? Any recommendations?

Hi Loren,

I have never visited, so I do not know what it would be like, but I have recently been very, very impressed wtih the wines from 4 Monos Viticultores, who are located just to the west of Madrid in the foothills of the Sierra de Gredos. Low octane wines, from mountainous vineyards and old vines- low intervention winemaking. They seem like a young, dynamic team and I think you would like the wines, but have no idea what the winery is like. PM me if you would like their importer contact information to see if they accept visitors.

I used their Bodegas Marañones 2013 Vinos de Madrid Sierra de Gredos Treintamil Maravedies in a Grenache presentation I did last year.

It’s just a little over two hours by car to the heart of Ribera del Duero. I did a day trip from Madrid some years back, visited two wineries (Mauro and Pesquera) and had a leisurely lunch, too.

I can second that. We drove from Madrid and went to Emilio Morro and Vega Sicilia (couldn’t get into Pingus) but all told with a great lunch 7 hours total.

I’m spending a week in Madrid this summer and had not considered winery adventures. Perhaps I should? 4 Monos Viticultores sounds right up my alley. A day trip to Ribera is certainly possible and I sell Pesquera so that might work out? Thanks for this thread. [cheers.gif]

Thanks for the suggestions. I like the idea of a new wine area to explore (not that I have been to RdD). Hopefully, I can get some visits set up.
