Globally…what do you think is the collectively Greatest wine vintage of ALL TIME in the history of the world…as well as the Worst???

1370 and 1677 respectively.

I gotta disagree. My 1370’s have finally started to come around. Never thought I would see that in my lifetime.

Best…1990

Worst…1988

1988 was terrific for Champagne, red and white Burgundy. Very good in Bordeaux. Very good throughout much of Australia.

best–my amphora of 66 BC. Some guy named Rudy sold it to me and swore it was real.

Worst–got to think about that. Maybe my birth year–1956.

I’ll nominate 1956 for worst, in part because it’s my birth year.

Buzz, 1988 is far from the worst vintage worldwide. It was great in Sauternes and Champagne.

1945 brought about some real legends…

Bad? 1973? I’m just guessing here…sounds good in my head though

66 BC is so overrated. Try the 73 or 67, then chime in.

1977 was a strong Port vintage. 1956 had nothing.

Best: 1985 seems to have been strong everywhere.

From my narrow view of the wine world, I can only weigh in on years I was a grower/producer.

Worst-1983

Best-2005 or 2013

Really useful exercise for those choosing to but blended vintage wines composed of wines from all of the worlds wine regions. :wink:

Greatest: 2010, and it ain’t even close. So many regions producing so many exceptional wines.

Sucks, doesn’t it? For a lot more reasons that wine (i.e., could be 66 or 76 instead [cheers.gif] )

I’m also a '56 birth year, and I’ve never had a birth wine that I thought was even decent, much less good (an admittedly small sample size).

I would say '90 for best year, at least from the perspective of wines currently ready to drink.

And there are plenty of Bordeaux from 1988 that have aged quite nicely; a “classic” vintage that was ultimately
overshadowed by the 1989’s and 1990’s.
