Vinotemp wine cooler compressor failed - replace unit or compressor?

The compressor on my 50 bottle vinotemp wine cooler I use for everyday bottles has failed. This was a relatively inexpensive unit purchased from Costco. Has anyone ever replaced the compressor on such a unit (or similar wine cooler)? Or should I just buy a new cooler?

The advice I got from an appliance repairman was that these coolers were not worth the cost of trying to replace the compressor and I should buy a much more “reliable” brand in the future.

Thanks,

Greg

Yup !

Buy a Eurocave.

This is sound advice, esp given the well documented problems with VT.

I have a similar VT which has been properly functioning for about 3 years or so. Given the low price of the unit, cheaper to buy a new one than repair.

Thanks all for the suggestions - those vinotemp threads are a nightmare.

As this is just for everyday drinkers (not my main storage), it is hard to justify the expense of a similarly-sized Eurocave. I will see if Costco will take it back - any other suggested brands that are sub $1,000 for a 40 - 50 bottle size cooler?

Definitely take it back to Costco. A wine fridge is not part of their limited time warranty items.

Hey Greg…been a long time. Definitely try returning…a colleague took back a grill he bought from Costco after five years of use…didn’t even have the receipt…they had his purchase in their system…gave him a credit towards a new one.

Buy something other than a Vinotemp - hopefully Costco will wake up and stop carrying units from this horrible company.

Hey Adam - thanks for the info - will definitely try now.
