Vice Versa Spring Offering 23

Anyone biting on the newest Vice Versa release. it hit my inbox today but the pricing increase was absolutely eye popping. It looks like the new price this year on the 2023’s is $350/btl. When I looked at my order from last year the pricing was $300/btl. Needless to say this definitely gives me some pause on the heels of the Kinesman release. Anyone else contemplating the release this year? VV is usually a buy for me but certainly thinking long and hard on whether to buy or drop this year t this pricing.

how much is the spinning plates?

Saw the offer list/prices this morning…am out! As you mentioned, when compared to Kinsman Eades just hard to consider $350. Then looking at today’s Beta 2021 vintage numbers, WOW! All-in with Ketan.

No Spinning Plates on this release.

Yes. VV, Kinsman, Realm, and Memento Mori are my Napa splurges.

Like you said it’s up $50/bottle from last year. Originally was planning on 2 TK & 2 DrK but will have to reduce that by one bottle due to price.

Spinning plates “should” still be $150/bottle. I bet they made a ton of that. They made 1300 cases of the 2022. (Which I really enjoyed with a short 30 minute decant)

Samantha has always been good with consolidating bottles to help control expensive shipping cost.

Anxious to see their new winery. I swear they’ve been working on it forever.

I may have to pass or reduce my buying with the new prices. 2 bottles could be my limit but which to leave out? Crane to kalon or lpv?

It looks like the 23 Beatrix is significantly more Cab Franc compared to last year, which is quite exciting. I know this is the first year they were supposed to get access to the Schrader blocks of To Kalon, so I suspect that this could be a very very good year for that bottling. What makes the decision more difficult is that Realm was just a couple weeks ago and we picked up 3 of their To Kalon and 1 of their Dr. Crane…

I was thinking about that as well and was only going to do 1bottle of each but I just don’t know if I can stomach $700+tax shipping then were talking 400/btl easy. I hate to pass on the 23’s but this is going to be tough to justify this go round

Definitely tough prices. I was able to taste a barrel sample of the 23 BTK. It was lights out amazing. My favorite VV wine to date… I pre purchased some during a visit months ago. So it helps spread out the spending. I wont be able to buy as much as 19 or 21, so a few bottles will have to do.

Schrader blocks?! Oh nice! Well that solved one decision.
@Santiago_Mejia They are all BEAUTIFUL wines but it comes down to, can I find something else really really close from the same vineyard at a lower cost? As far as LPV goes. Fait Main LPV was $525 for a 3 pack. (2022). So……the choice is yours and how deep your pockets are.

I know for certain I won’t be buying anything from the fall release; I already have plenty Thorevilos wines and none of the other sites that vintage are exceptional. The question is what the standout will be between To Kalon CS, Beatrix, and the Dr. Crane… In any case, I might pull back on Crane considering I already have 3 of the 21 and 3 of the 22 from them.

I responded to the text I received that the price was too high and they said they could remove me from the list so obviously not at a loss for buyers. However they also said spinning plates would be about 150 a bottle.

Yeah Spinning Plates is usually $150/btl. However I wouldn’t day they aren’t hurting for customers. It will be very interesting this year to see how quickly this offer moves in this economic climate before they start sending out reminder emails. At $350/per that put them in an whole other pricing league( This is starting to approach 1st Growth BDX pricing) Sadly I’m definitely skipping this year. I have wine a dinner in a few weeks and I’ve gotten close with their distributor here in TX so I’m definitely going to chat with him and get his take on it.

Hello all, hope everybody is doing well. Just wanted to chime in and explain a little bit more about this year price increase. As you may know, we have been building a new winery. The construction has been going for 3 and a half years and the costs have tripled since we purchased the vineyard in 2019 (Covid and fires have left us with an exploding budget, not because of our fault). We are however super excited to open in about 3 weeks, finally. Hope that you can all come visit us.

We created an amazing space with top of the line equipment and technology which will allow us to push further the quality of the wines. We got some incredible double walled Lejeune and Nico Velo tanks. The best and latest technology for our tanks and pump over control. We have an incredible heating/cooling system inside the walls of the cave. We also invested a lot in new barrels and foudres for a brand new oak program. We hired a brand new head winemaker, Spencer Kelly and Robbie Crabb as a Cellar Master in addition to the Melka team. We also had to hire a few other staff members in the back end in order to maintain our great customer service.

Also to take into account that we are lucky to have a winery opening as we wouldn’t have been allowed to make wine at Wheeler Farms anymore. This investment is certainly not lost.

I also want to confirm that Spinning plates is staying at 150$. Every year, we do increase the price at 165$ after the offering period.

I want to mention that after this increase on the single vineyards and Magnificent Seven, we will not increase for many years.

We appreciate all your support and understand that any increase is not fun and difficult. We wouldn’t increase the prices if it wouldn’t be necessary. We are excited to continue making the best wines possible and having the most fun with our guests in our own winery. This has been our dream since the beginning. The winery will be very distinctive and we can’t wait to share it with all of you.

The 2023 wines are truly the best we ever made. We are so excited about it and can’t wait for you all to taste them. Cheers!

I am in for a small amount — nothing to do with price increases, just constrained by the need to cap my cellar. The correct logistical answer me for me would be zero. However, I just had to make room for a small amount of VV 23s. It didn’t hurt to have opened a 2019 Platt Pinot Noir that radically exceeded my high expectations.

For those of you that haven’t tried the 2023 vintage out of barrel from your favorite producers I can vouch for Samantha’s claim. The wines are nothing short of incredible. They are so damn sexy.

If you were to lean into a vintage, this is the one.

My 2 cents.

Thanks for jumping in here - I’m sure it’s quite helpful to those who love your wines.

I might be cautious to put this statement onto paper - it sounds good but may be challenging to uphold with an uncertain economic future, right?

Good luck with the new winery facility - hope to see it when I’m up your way in the future.

Cheers

New 2023 cabs just dropped. $350 per bottle, I’m sure they’re great but I’m priced out from VV.

Same…I dropped last year when they increased to $350 and stated that this was the last increase they were planning for awhile…I mean at $350/btl I’d hope so

I did buy a few bottles of the 23 vintage, but the prices are absolutely brutal.

As much as I wanted to splurge on the 23 vintage I told myself after the Kinsman Eades offerings I was done with all the other $300+ wines especially since I have a standing order with KE…something had to go and in this case it was VV
