Veuve Clicquot Sues Italian Producer

Really? Maybe the free press will be good for the small guy

Silly. A classic non-starter…

Really? The labels look nothing alike and the wines are produced in different countries. VC is really reaching on this; hope they lose.

I might not be the smartest guy in the room, but I know orange from yellow.

A frivolous action. VC will not only lose the case but also a lot of credibility…

That color’s not even close! I have seen various sparklers with labels so close in color to VC as to be indistinguishable and they’re going after this little guy?
Ridiculous and hilarious.

Maybe it is not really the color of the label. Despite the difference in type size and style, you have to admit that “Ciropicariello” and “Veuve Cliquot” are confusingly similar names. Yet another important breaking story uncovered by Diana Goodman and the crack journalistic staff at a wine search engine!

I agree. Sparkling fiano, I may have to give this a try!

Didn’t Cristalino, the $8 Cava, recently have to change its label due to a dispute with Cristal, the $200 champagne?

It can’t be much worse than Veuve Brut

Hmm. I have seen other prosecco’s that look closer to veuve’s label than this. Plus Gloria Ferrer created a new line that seems intentionally close to Veuve in effort to attract attention from the veuve crowd…

Apparently there is no lawsuit, yet…

I’m thinking about starting a winery in Bordeaux, using a white/off-white label, and placing a picture of the chateau front and center. I doubt any other winery is doing such a thing. I’ll be fine, right?

Well, it’s available, at least in CA. The wine isn’t disgorged, make sure it’s good and cold before you start, unless you like lees.

There’s a Twitter campaign ‘boycott the widow’ brewing in Italy, #boicottalavedova

(I import Picariello.)

…which bears NO resemblance to theirs:

It’s done wonders for our sale of the wine.

I understand there’s a Twitter campaign to ‘boycott the Widow’,
#boicottalavedova

They did the same thing in 2001 and threatened Stefano Lubiana Winery in Tasmania for using the same colour label which forced the small winery to withdraw the wine.

Saying there’s NO resemblance is the tiniest bit of an overstatement. They certainly are very, very different, but I think the borders and general impression of the colors bear an extremely slight resemblance. It’s certainly ridiculous and thuggish of Veuve to be going after them. Boycotting is easy… wouldn’t drink it regardless.

I wish I could boycott VC, but I haven’t purchased their product in 30 years and wouldn’t in the future regardless of their thuggery.
