Verum 'Soul N' Pinot Noir - Patagonia

As far as PNs here go, this is pretty gravelly/minerally on the nose and not especially fruity. Had a whiff of plastic right on opening that I don’t remember in younger bottles but that blows off after a few minutes. Kind of shy on the nose but what’s there is a rather pretty combo of light cherry with some floral rose along with some forest floor dirt. On the palate it’s got more tannic grip than many PNs down here with the exception of Chacra. Wouldn’t confuse it with Burgundy but that’s not a slight. It is its own thing. Doesn’t exactly feel what most people think of as New World PN, either. Not great but well worth the $23 or thereabouts that I paid. Losing some of the fruit from a couple years ago upon release. Can’t really say it feels like an ager but it’s hanging on fine, just not really developing anything that makes aging worthwhile.

I believe this 2019 was the inaugural vintage of Soul N but it’s made by Bodega Verum which has been around for a long time and continues to make other wines under the Verum label. Overall good values. Entry Chardonnay comes in around $9. Pretty sure they are exported. Now being made by a guy from Spain.

I put the cork in to show the tartrate crystals that developed but it doesn’t look like they show in the pic.
