I’ve never bought anything at auction and have never sold anything at auction. In fact, I’ve never visited an auction site. My interest is solely to value my collection. Any guidance will be appreciated. In particular the venues that would be best for the stated purpose. TIA.
Cellartracker has data integration with Wine Market Journal which aggregates auction results quarterly. When you generate reports or export data in Cellartracker, it should use the auction price for valuation if one is available.
Thanks, but I don’t use cellartracker. Anyone else?
Who to have value your collection depends on whats in the collection. Super high end would be a Sotheby’s probably, but mine with a rough average value of $60 was better at WineBid.
All that said, if youre asking someone to value your collection and dont intend to consign, it costs them a lot. Several auction sites allow you to search prior sold lots. K&L and Acker come to mind. WineBid if on google you search for site:winebid.com (enter wine here) it will pop up recent results. Benchmark will also value your collection for sale.
Thanks for your insights.
How do you keep track of your wines currently? If you have some form of spreadsheet, there are tools to get a larger collection integrated into Cellartracker, so that’s a pretty quick way to get a rough valuation.
Or you could send your list to auction houses if you have the intent to sell your wines.
