We cannot stress enough at how good this wine is for the money! We just tasted this and several other VERY EXCITING Burgundy new releases earlier this week.

Our tasting note: A medium straw yellow, youthful. A very fragrant med+ nose of green apples, pear, lemon curd and lemon oil, a light salinity and mineral note adds further complexity and depth. On the palate this has med/med+ acidity, a medium body, with a very pleasant savoriness and salinity to the gorgeous orchard and sweet citrus notes. Fresh, dense, and vibrant on the palate, this has a long, resonating finish. There is A LOT of wine in the bottle for the $ on this little number!

  • Grapes: 100% Chardonnay
  • 35-year-old vines
  • Soil: clay and limestone
  • Vinified 1/3 used French oak barrels to add richness and body and 2/3 stainless-steel tanks to retain freshness and liveliness.

Marcel Servin Chablis 2022
Chablis, Burgundy
$28.99 on 12+
$29.99 on 6+ (code: 6saves2)

$31.99

The grapes are from the Pargues vineyard, formerly classified Premier Cru, but not being worked when reclassification was done following WWII. Stainless steel fermented, with 100% malolactic completed. It’s basically Premier Cru quality at a village-level price. Since this is Francois’ personal, entry-level wine, we nickname it “Special Reserve”.

Tasting Note: Sleek, wonderful balance, with green apple and fuji apple, juicy pear, bright floral, chipped chalky stones, backed up with crisp acidity and a nice streak of minerality. Med/med+ body, med+ palate intensity and finish. A notch above textbook AOC Chablis.

Vineyard - Pargues
Classification - Village
Age of Vines - 45
Case Made - 500
Cellar Potential - 3 - 5 years
% of New Oak Barrels - none, raised entirely in stainless

Claudie Jobard “Milliane” Bourgogne Cote d’Or 2022
Bourgogne Rouge, Burgundy
$33.99 (12+ bottles)
$34.99 (6+ bottles)
$36.99

Domaine Gabriel Billard is now directed by Claudie Jobard. The four hectares of parcels in and around Beaune and Pommard have a very high percentage of old vines. Certified organic farming with only natural composts used, with minimal treatments in the vines and regular light tilling (“griffage”) and wild-yeast fermentations. The 2022 Cuvee Milliane “Vieilles Vignes” is from old vines near Pommard… Approachable upon opening with elegant aromas of tart cherry and black fruits with hints of licorice and dried flowers, along with peppery spices, plums, fresh herbaceousness and zesty acidity combining to make quite a festive pinot. A great pairing for all manner of red meat dishes such as steak tartare and steak sandwich, duck tacos and peeking duck. DIVINE!!!

Our tasting notes: We were very impressed with this wine, so much so that we requested a second pour (this does not happen very often)! This is a “Baby Pommard”, with a gorgeous nose of baking spices, tart cherries from 70 year-old vines! Pleasant, slightly bitter aftertaste. Highly recommended.

Tortochot Gevrey-Chambertin Jeunes Rois 2022
Gevrey-Chambertin, Burgundy
$81.99 (12+ bottles)
$84.99 (6+ bottles)
$89.99

Les Jeunes Rois (the young kings) vineyard lies at the end of a string of Premier Cru parcels and would certainly be elevated in any reclassification. Chantal calls it a “lazy wine” in the cellar, as it always takes quite a long time to finish malolactic fermentation. But when it finishes, this wine is incredible and represents wonderful value.

Tasting Notes: Terrific value. Well-extracted, with good color and concentration. Super-ripe cranberry and blackberry, with a touch of herbal spice.

Vineyard: Jeunes Rois
Classification: Village
Grape Variety: Pinot Noir
Age of Vines: 25 years
Case Made: 250
Cellar Potential: 4 - 7 years
% of New Oak Barrels: 20%

That Claudie Jobard “Milliane” '22 is the best Burgundy under $50, well in this case under $40 I have had so far this year…a true Burgundy ‘drinker’s’ delight. But each wine was on point and over delivering. These wines come from a small importer that brings in producers with high reputations in France, but with little to no marketing (or much care for scores) producers. For example, the Marcel Servin Chablis is made by the same winemaker Francois Servin, who makes the negoce wines for the family name/company. The negoce wines, while more popular and score well, are great, but inferior to the Marcel Servin wines. The Marcel Servin wines only are sold in France, and one importer in Japan and our importer in the US. They have longer elevages of up to a year in steel, only 1 GC (Fourchaume) gets some neutral wood, while the negoce wines are 6 months steel/lees and off they go bottled. We have built up quote a nice following for these wines over the last few years working with them, they have several climats and pricing for the GCs is regulalrly under $100.
