Utopos wines from Barossa - Anyone tasted them before?

I recently bought two bottles of Utopos wines at a bargain price, one 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon and one 2017 Shiraz. There is not much media coverage of this winery, and I managed to find out the winery was founded by Kym Teusner (founder of Teusner) and his friend Neil Panuja. I wonder if anyone knows the style and QBR of their wines.

The label hasn’t made enough waves locally to be on my radar, but the Barossa is not a a go to region for me anyway. I did look up reviews on a local site and found one for the Cabernet and other yeas of the shiraz. I get the feeling these tend towards old school Barossa, so ripe, concentrated big flavours with lots of oak. In general the reviews suggest, that the wines are pretty good at what they do, if you like that sort of thing

Thank you Paul. It’s been long since I last had Australian wines (in May). I think I would enjoy that traditional style

I had their Shiraz and CS 2019, most recently about a month ago. There are also blends, and now also a premium Shiraz bottling. The profile as you would expect from Barossa: big, rich, opulent wines, dark and dense, with big floral flavors. But in an elegant rather than obtrusive way, with moderate (for Borossa) alcohol of 14.5% . They should age well.

I have been drifting away from this style and hardly buy any Southern Rhone reds anymore. But every now and then I lapse back, in this case without regrets.

Thanks so much Maciej. I think I will enjoy the traditional but more elegant Barossa wines. :kissing_heart: 2017 vintage might make shiraz even more elegant.
