We are thrilled (and also feel somewhat old) to announce that the tenth Under The Wire release is going live on Tuesday, May 16th.
Since this is a special ten year release anniversary, we put extra thought into the wines we wanted to share to celebrate a decade of selling single vineyard bubbles. The wines will be from a diverse number of incredible places, soil types, and varieties from around California - some of which we have been working with since the beginning, and others that are newer to the lineup.
We also have been blessed that as the support for the wines has grown, we have been able to hold back certain wines to release with a little bottle age. This release will include wines from the 2017, 2018, and 2019 vintages. From Alder Springs and Brosseau to Bedrock, Sangiacomo, Chuy and Oakville Farmhouse, it is quite the tour of California via bubbles. We talked through all the wines in this release in detail on our podcast, Bedrock Wine Conversations, linked here for those interested in a deep-dive on these wines prior to the release in a couple weeks.

I had a taste of the Chuy last week when a buddy and I were in Sonoma. It was pretty steely to me. Certainly enjoyable but it wouldn’t hurt to sit on it for a bit. Tasty though. I do wish I had taken a picture of the other bottle we had tasted. It was also quite good and a lot more open. Unfortunately I have no recollection as to which one we tasted.
The 2014 and 2015 Oakville Farmhouse are the only two UTW’s that i have left. Love the red wines from the vineyard so ive had the highest hopes for these wines out of their lineup. We’ll see!
Did a Bedrock tasting in Sonoma and they poured some of the UTW and we couldn’t leave without purchasing one. So this will be my first release on the list.
I recently had a nice '16 Brosseau Vineyard Chard. Think I might of opened most of these too soon as I wasn’t crazy about my first bottles–but the last two had some nice almond/marzipan notes that I liked. I didn’t much like the Alder Springs rose of the three bottles I opened but didn’t give those as much time in the cellar? With the price rise in Champagne–these are more tempting, but probably going to save my money for the Goodfellow project. I’m just not convinced California is the place to make these types of wines? I haven’t bought a white wine from California in some time.
I did pop open a 18 Brosseau over the weekend. It was fantastic and regret only getting singletons of everything but Bedrock Vineyard last year.
From my backfilling of some older UTW vintages I did not find them as exciting - they were all missing something. Have more that I need to pick up from WineBid, maybe with more tasting I will figure out exactly what the difference is.
I swore I was not going to order, but bless her heart, my wife asked me why not. She loved the Heron Lake bottling, and while she was not a fan of the Bedrock Sparkling Zin, she wants to try more of the Chardonnay-based wines.
I bought the very first release. Hard to believe it’s on year 10.
