Ulysses Napa Cab

Any intel on this relatively new label from the folks at Dominus? A couple bottles of the '12 popped up at my local wine store and the owner has stated this is one of the best new labels to come out in recent years. I trust his knowledge and experience, but I wonder if this is due to the quality of the winemaker, or terroir, or perhaps they were fortunate to launch their first two vintages in 12 and 13? Perhaps all three?

Haven’t had it yet, but hope to. It’s an Oakville property, not far from ToKalon and Martha’s Vineyard. Parker and Galloni rated it a 93, which is odd since both gave Dominus significantly higher scores. Buy one and try before buying. I know only 800 cases were made, but I don’t see the 2012 flying off the shelf.

Good call- I’ll pop one soon and lay the other one down for a couple years. Trying to find a '13 but no success so far…

I tried the 2012 earlier this year. A lovely wine, with striking briary, wild berry & plum fruit tones. While it has a very different personality to Dominus, it is very much in the same style, so if you appreciate Dominus then I’m sure you’ll like Ulysses. The site is not far from the boundary with Yountville, up against the western hills pretty much behind the Brix restaurant. So it’s just a bit of a way from To Kalon and Martha’s. I was a big fan and thoroughly recommend it.

My brief write-up’s here: Producer profile: Ulysses - Decanter

Thanks William- good read! I grabbed a couple off wine.com, now if I could only find a couple '13s… Agh the never ending hunt for good vino…
