As I pointed out in a different post, the panel at Vinum tasted ten years after Riesling Spätlesen from the higher-acid 2014 vintage, which included auction wines from various regions. Five Saar wines placed in the top ten, with four in the top four. Scharzhofberger (Egon Müller), Kanzemer Altenberg (von Othegraven), and Krettnacher Euchariusberg (Hofgut Falkenstein) were the top three finishers. Fourth place was another Kanzemer Altenberg, designated as “Alte Reben,” from von Othegraven, and second place was the auction Spätlese from Altenberg in Kanzem.
I see that the 2023s finally arrived in Brooklyn wine shops, such as Leon & Son, yesterday.
In Chicago, the 2023s are at Perman Wines and Vin Chicago.
Thanks for the update. On November 9, Red & White Wines had a six-bottle lineup of 2023s for an in-store tasting, which was free for all. The wines are sold out now.
I noticed that Leon & Son already sold out of five selections since December 13. The other Brooklyn shop that posted about the new arrivals is Kings County Wines.
My Meyer Nepal landed early Nov from Chapel Hill. Glad we had mags back this year!
What I find interesting is the cases I purchase in the UK aren’t delivered until March the following year. Do you know why US stores get delivery so much earlier?
That’s great to hear.
Our importer in the UK is Howard Ripley Wines. I don’t know why.
Yes, that’s who I buy from every year. For some reason they aren’t available until March.
When Johannes visited Chicago for the RieslingKenner fifth annual Hofgut Falkenstein charity tasting, he walked into Red & White Wines and noticed that they still had some 2023s on the shelf. Perhaps they’re not showing these bottles online.
In Brooklyn, Starr Wines & Spirits is also offering a large selection of wines from 2023.
Had a 2023 from Eastside Cellars in Manhattan last week…stunning!! Maybe best QPR bottle in recent memory
Do you recall which one?
I wanted to ask him the same question, but you beat me to it.
Perman had just a single bottle on the shelf, even though they had three different Rieslings in stock.
Binnys and Vin both have some.
What a lovely shop that is
Well maybe it was a 2022 left over from last year because I went just now to get another bottle, and they said they just got in allocation within past couple days and opened box in front of me.
It was a Niedermenniger Herrenberg Kabinett Feinherb but they also have another Feinherb and a Trocken according to website.
That’s right. Eastside Cellars has the following 2023s: Herbert, Meyer Nepal, and Munny.
In the West Village, MCF Rare Wine is offering most of the new wines imported by MFW Wine Co.
They have 4 wines listed and all 4 are SOLD OUT.
Woah! The offer was made at around noon today.
I did find some @ Discovery Wines.
