The 2023 Gisela, which is aging in cask, is special, too. I agree with you. So much depends on the producer when assessing vintages, such as 2017 or 2022.
I haven’t opened any of my '22 Falkensteins yet, but I am certain they will be terrific. Just like the '18s, '19s, '20s, and '21s I’ve had.
I’m also looking forward to buying those '23 Giselas (and many more in the future).
There was severe frost damage in the Saar region in 2019. We even tied down the “frost canes” in Gisela and a few other parcels that year.
If I could, I definitely would. Alas, I will be joining in spirit, via a spiritual and virtual Falkenstein tasting!
I have not opened any 2022 Falkenstein yet, but I had Kabinett from both Julian Haart and Hermann Ludes. Both really really good!
There will, surely, be a report of the event with tasting notes.
The Saar really excelled in 2022. I felt like the Saar was a step behind the Mosel in 2021 but in 2022 this flipped.
I would say I am warming up. I went to the Skurnik auction tasting last night and really liked a few 22s. The Jakob Schneider Trocken really wowed me and not surprisingly the AJ Adam Alte Reben Kabi was perfect for me.
As you know, the various critics, such as Mosel Fine Wines, rated the 2021s from Hofgut Falkenstein among the best in the greater Mosel region.
It’s now offiical that the wines of Hofgut Falkenstein will be imported to Connecticut by Classic Wines for Ungrafted Selections.
Congrats.
Thanks.
Quick update: Good Omens Wine Co. has been renamed Marathon Wine Imports.
New France just received their 2022s - we are putting the Ockfener Bockstein Kabinett on our wine list - excited to try them all, purchasing a few bottles of each wine that arrived for myself -
New France Wine received no allocation of the 2022s. The first allocation will be the 2023s.
For those wondering, the 2023s should be available in NYC in late November or early December.
The 23’s are on the shelves in Chicago now. fyi
That’s great to hear.
Quick update: the wines for MFW got to port and the estimated time of arrival for clearing them is on Friday.
Not surprising. I tend to like the Mosel in higher acid vintages and the Saar (or Ruwer) as well or better in other types of vintages. For example, I found the Saar and Ruwer better than the Mosel in 1989 and all of them great in 1990.
