Dear wise ones! I have been sitting on a 6 pack of Vat1 2010. I have no experience with these wines. Can I beg some advice?
-
Drinking window? Is it too early? Yes, I have looked at notes on CTracker but would value this groups views!
-
What does one pair with these wines? Food suggestions!
-
Temp for serving?
-
What flavor profile should I expect?
Again, I have no experience with these wines. I have tried to be patient! Helpful advice solicited!
Thanks everyone
Well done on having this is your cellar. Hunter Semillon is a very flexible food wine, match it with shellfish (fresh oysters a classic match), crustaceans, fish; can go with chicken or pork at a less chilled temperature.
Flavourwise, citrus and some slight toasty notes that are solely from bottle ageing; light bodied, dry, soft rounded palate with good acid spine.
The 2010 Vat 1’s drinking window should be opening up now, so worth trying one if you have 6. They will continue to evolve for many years, so you can spread your drinking of the rest over the next 15-20 years, if not more.
One of the world’s great white wines (especially at the price), sees no oak at all. The Hunter can have a very strong terroir imprint, with many aged wines (say 20+ years) tasting firstly of the Hunter before their variety. Tyrrell’s is one of the great Hunter producers as well. Enjoy!
Jon, Thanks so much. Curiosity…what is the hunter imprint? What do I look for?
