First the “long doc”:
2001 Chateau La Roque Pic Saint Loup ‘Cupa Numismae’ Languedoc
Rich, smoky, cigar, cherries and plums on the nose. Very nice. Tobacco leaf, dark cherry fruit, baked cherries, minerals and smokiness on the palate. Still a touch of unresolved tannin on the finish. But very nice. Cupa Numismae is a 60/40 blend of Syrah and Mourvedre. The mourvedre completely dominates the palate on this baby. Can’t complain, it’s an excellent wine!
2001 Francois Jobard Bourgogne Blanc
Really interesting White Burgundy: Golden color. Botryized, mineralized, citrified nose. No hint of oxidation. Pretty cool for $19.00. Some botrytis, minerals and lemons with a nice rich body. Awesome for $19.00! Really fantastic paired with raw oysters…Excellent.
2003 Guffens-Heynen Pouilly-Fuisse "Premier Jus Hautes du Vin"
Light straw color. Citrus, minerals and some vanilla on the nose. More of the same on the palate. Obviously very well made, but not really exciting. On day 3 there was an added steeliness that added to the enjoyment. Very good/Excellent.
