A friend was born in 1961 and is looking to acquire some additional 1961 BDX. Tribeca Wine Merchants just listed some 1961 BDX for sale. This is what they have to say about the provenance of the bottles:
"We are happy to offer a remarkable selection of Legendary 1961 Bordeaux. These wines all come from one of the most exciting cellars we know. A member of the Commanderie de Bordeaux and the Chevalier du Tastevin, he methodically purchased many of the greatest wines in full case from release, and stored everything in a purpose-built, temperature controlled cellar. There are legends like 1961 Haut Brion, 1961 Cheval Blanc, 1961 Lafite, and favorites like 1961 Pape Clement, 1961 Pichon Baron, and many more. On our visits we have had the pleasure of tasting many wines with decades of age, each proving beautiful examples of well-stored Bordeaux.
We’ve sold a great deal of wine from this cellar in the past year, including several 1961’s, and have had rave reviews."
Does anyone have any information on the source of these bottles or know anything about them? I’ve seen pictures of the bottles and they look legit, but you never know obviously. I’ve asked them some follow up questions. Any insights (as opposed to rank speculation) would be appreciated.
I don’t know a ton of details about the cellar, but I did have a '61 Lynch-Bages that I got from them from this cellar – it was delicious! Hope this helps and that your experience ends up as good as mine was.
Thank you for the input. I think we are going to buy 4 x Pichon Baron, 3 x Troplong Mondot, 1 x LLC and 1 x Leoville Poyferre. Will be interested to try one. We have had some profound 61s over the years. Finding well stored, authentic bottles is a significant challenge.
