I have some friends joining us in Napa this week. We will have a rental car already when the arrive. What would be the best and cheapest way of getting them to Napa from Oakland airport? Uber? Taxi? Or just have them get a Small rental call themselves?
Saw an Avis ad for a one-way rental rate (maximum 4 hour rental) for $19.95. Don’t know if it is available from Oakland Airport (and most likely available only certain days of the week) but maybe worth checking out. There is an Avis location in Napa on Soscal Avenue.
There’s a relatively new/free elevated train/tram from the Oakland airport terminals that goes directly to the nearest Bart station. If cost is a factor, it’d be easy to take Bart to the El Cerrito Del Norte station and take uber/etc from there. That would cut out 20 uber miles out of a 50 mile trip (50 from Oakland airport to Napa, 30 from El Cerrito Del Norte to Napa).
If you do this, you’ll want to get off on the Del Norte station, which is right next to the freeway. The Richmond station, one past Del Norte, is further away from the freeway.
The Bart trip from the airport to the Del Norte station is ~45 minutes. In good traffic, that same route (to Del Norte) would take ~30 minutes…but that section of freeways is one of the worst in the country, so it’s very likely longer than that.
