Train wreck gets back on the rails

Well not really a train wreck, perhaps a horse and carriage that’s carrying a container of raspberry jam smashes into a barn full of chicken shit, then rights itself.

The 2000 Les Cailloux (Lucien et André Brunel) Châteauneuf-du-Pape is slightly cloudy and quite ferral to begin with. It has plenty of funk and some strange lactic notes. The animale does subside in the glass and notes of espresso, lavender, sap, scorched earth and raspberry jam pep up. The bret takes a bit of a back seat but reminds the drinker of its presence via some camphor notes. I quite liked the texture of this wine, it was low acid without getting soupy and the flavour profile certainly improved.

you are slumming Mr Holmes.

Yes, I am amused yet shocked.

I can’t tell if this is a positive or a negative take. It definitely makes me want to try it though.

I think that Jeremy is in training to be a politician.
I suspect he recorked it after half a bottle and restored equilibrium with a Burg.

great note J
I think I get it
I think

I think I liked it. We emptied the bottle but will more than likely head back to the Cote d’Or this evening.

I have had this bottle several times as well as having Brunel’s wines with age on them and you’re spot on. They get funky, musky and animal at the 10-15 year point but they seem to come together with a serious decant.
