Trader Joes Pinot Grigio Bargain

While I find most Italian Pinot Grigio to be insipid and uninteresting, this bottle was very well made with medium body and crisp minerality. At Trader Joe’s, a real deal.

We crush this wine.

The warden found this and it’s a rebuy all the time.

My girlfriend brought this one home. She is trained to look for a DOC band.

Does anyone have any color or insights into these 3 TJ’s bottlings? I’d never seen them before…

SLH Pinot I think the picture is Lot 118?

A white labeled Rioja Gran Reserva from ‘Marques de Butrago’ (probably Aldi linked?)

RRV Pinot I missed the Lot # though

This location has a better wine selection than my normal one, but the cashier told me that is due to them being much more ‘shrinkage’ aware. High dollar product like wine is closely monitored and staff doesn’t let known troublemakers enter or loiter.

I do. Driving home. Hit you tomorrow

The lot #118 has a lot of oak for my taste.

The RRV is probably #122

It’s oak forward too.

They’re both a pass for me but YMMV

Thank you for that color. What’s interesting is that this TJ’s also has $70 d’Issan and $35 Lynch Moussas too.

I looked up that Rioja house and it appears to be part of the Manzanos empire, which I’m seeing more of nowadays. I had a good ‘Voche’ from an off vintage from them last year.

The 2021 TJ Reserve Pinot Santa Barbara lot 241 isn’t half bad, just opened it.

Oddly enough the tasting note on the label is fair.

I bought some Merlot last year that had the label Oakville Bench that was actually pretty awesome. You could tell it was from a good winery who bulked out their 2020. Maybe a bit too sugary but a crowd pleaser for sure. I bought a few more bottles to have around and I actually asked if this was going to be a regular wine and was told it was. Two weeks later it was all gone never to be seen again

Wife loves Pinot Grigio and I do not so I will make sure to pick her up some of these. It’s one varietal where I couldn’t tell you if I was sipping on a $5 Kirkland bottle or a $30 Livio Felluga.

If you like rosé there are a couple from provence that are great.

JL Quinson is a staple. Nice dry rosé with a little dirty note
