Expect a very expensive starting price as the rest of their 2019 lineup has had a huge price jump compared to the 2018’s. I was interested in purchasing in one of the 2019 Cabernet’s, but the price increase is kinda insane. There’s just so much good wine out there at the price that it has become a pass for me.
Tierra Roja from $125 to $175
Melanson from $200 to $250
VHR from $175 to $275
These are substantial price increases especially the VHR bottling (insanity in my opinion) and VHR’s own wine costs $275 for the 2018. What do you think they would charge for their inaugural Dr. Crane?
Really like TOR but don’t buy from them as shipping charges are the highest of any Napa wine I buy. They insist on 2 day which is expensive when everyone else I’m able to ship ground.
I honestly think the entire thing was pretty pointless (just my opinion), but I saw a clip of an interview with the owner and he seems overly enthralled that his wine won… I’m guessing it just adds another reason why he can price the wines so high?
On a completely different note, just had a 19 DRC VV the other night and it was beautiful!
Tasted with them and Crane and To Kalon were $300 at my tasting per bottle. Plus tax and shipping.
I got to try the To kalon and really enjoyed it, just struggled at the price point. I can’t think of another $300 TK wine that I buy. Vice Versa is my cap at about $250 which was at least as good as the TOR for me.
That’s awesome and I’ve been hearing the 2019’s are beginning to close down just a little bit. Looks like many more people are waiting to pop them later in the fall/winter.
The Carter wines are great to kalon wines, schrader as well. Both 225 or cheaper. Myriad will have one soon which will probably be in that range as well. I buy Janzen also which I can find cheaper. Just hard to justify unless it was truly mind blowing. For me, it was not.
