A while ago I posted a thread about 1961s for a certain birthday.
It seems that someone else in my house is looking at 62s for a birthday dinner. ![]()
I have some Produttori and some Burgundy. Any other ideas?

rough year (birth year for both my wife and I). I have had luck with some Barolo, but that’s about it (Burgundy is supposed to be quite good, but the price - ouch!)
I don’t think I live with you?
Same thing. My wife is a '72. Good that’s a rough year to find something.
The listings on Free Wine-Searcher all look like they’re counterfeit bottles [the prices are off by about a factor of ten, and they’re at shops which no one has ever heard of].

There might not even be counterfeit bottles involved - all of those stores might simply be internet fictions designed to get ahold of your credit card number & its expiration date & its security code.
But I suppose Wine-Searcher Pro might have some legit shops with legit bottles.
If you were conceived in 1961, then drink 1961s. Problem solved.
62 Latour is very good. I had a 62 Mouton (2d growth!) a couple of years ago that made me tear up a bit. Can’t help otherwise
The most recent good experience I had was Torres Gran Coronas black label. We had the 62 and 64 together and both were good.
Rioja can be good too. It seems to be immortal.
I have a couple halves of Climens that I’m looking forward to but no experience yet.
But honestly, what would be a better present for your lovely bride than a jero of Madeira?

While the bottles aren’t terribly easy to find, it was a very good Bordeaux vintage other than the fact that it gets overshadowed by 1961. I’ve opened a few wines recently, though I suspect others might have more experience. I’ve had two bottles of Gruaud over the last year or so. While the first was badly oxidized given a failed cork, the second (a few months ago) was hanging in fairly well—on the downslide but probably at least a high 80s scoring wine for me. A PLL opened around the same time was absolutely fantastic, at least as good (perhaps a bit more complex actually) than the 1970 and better than any of the 1966 examples I’ve tried. I had this one in the 94/95 point range. The Latour is supposed to be excellent but tends to go for close to a $1k recently. I think I have bottles of the LLC and Laville Haut Brion, but unfortunately haven’t sampled either yet. I think I’d feel pretty confident buying Bordeaux from that vintage—perhaps more so than any other of the 60s save 1961 (and possibly right bank 64s).
I also opened a late release 1962 Georges Noellat Grand Echezeaux last week. I’ve heard there may have been top off of these bottles which wouldn’t suprise me at all. The color was somewhat faded but the wine was holding on well, though I wouldn’t say I loved it—probably in the 90/91 range.
Do you do windows?
The Jose Maria Fonseca Moscatel de Setubal is superb. At release about $50 per half liter. Probably hard to find now and at exorbitant prices though.

Rioja is also probably much cheaper than the others as well. Good call
There were lots of lovely 62 burgundies to celebrate my fortieth. Unfortunately there are very few around for my sixtieth, and most corks will be becoming frail now even if old burgundy were not now priced prohibitively given likely failures.
Latour 62 can be wonderful.
Champagne was quite good in 1962 though the year gets lost a bit between the better vintages of 1961 and 1964. Nothing is likely going to be inexpensive and you will pay a huge premium for a recent release, but the wines can be wonderful (assuming you like aged Champagne).
I have a 1962 Marchesi di Barolo waiting to ship from Envoyer I could hook you up with. When is HRHs bday?
The 1962 Delas Freres La Tourette that we had at Berns about 6 years ago was one of the greatest wines I ever had.
I too have enjoyed some 62 Latour, and if you can find some you may as well buy it.
Here is one option…
I love the idea of Madeira too.
Putting together an upcoming dinner of birthday wines and had a similar issue. Went with 1962 Château Suduiraut although Rioja is probably a good choice as well…
Armagnac and Banyuls could be safe bets
