Dear Colleagues,
Would you let me know if any of you have been offered in the past some barrels from Remond that were presented in any way as having some relationship to Dujac (e.g. a “Dujac toast” or a “Dujac style barrel”, etc.)?
Remond are being more than a bit difficult as a supplier these days and until now, we have been, I think, a useful poster winery for them and their marketing. This is something they completely refuse to acknowledge in any way. Perhaps it was just my imagination. I will see from the responses this thread gets.
Wishing you all in the northern hemisphere a good harvest.

Domaine Dujac
Jeremy,
About 5-8 years ago we purchased Remond barrels. They marketed that Dujac was a customer, but did not speak of a specific Dujac style barrel.
At the same time, I visited your father and he explained that he chose the wood, specified the toast and aged it 3 years. It did not sound like the “stock” Remond barrel at all. At the time, Remond was primarily selling 2 yr air dried barrels in the US so it seemed that the standard Remond product was quite a bit different from what Dujac was using. When we asked about using 3 yr barrels, there was some resistance and an explanation that the Remond style was oriented around 2 yr wood. We did finally get some 3 yr barrels, but moved away from the cooper anyway.
Thanks Kevin!
We only dry our wood 2.5 years actually, perhaps even a little less. I can’t say 3 years drying has done it for me in trials.
Glad to hear that Remond were clear as to what they were offering.
Best,
Jeremy
Jeremy,
We purchase Remond in small quantities for our winery (Flowers). They certainly “market” the fact that Remond is the Dujac barrel of choice. But, we have never been offered a “Dujac toast or style” barrel. I can say that tasting your wines in barrel compared to ours that there seems to be something different about the wood/toast/aging.
Hope the vintage is treating you well!
Jason
We’ve been buying them for nearly 10 years… never once did our rep in California mention Dujac - much less any other winery that uses their barrels. Maybe it was because we sought them out and they didn’t have to “sell” us on their barrel.
I’ve worked with Todd Stanfield and Remond for several years. Not once has he mentioned Dom. Dujac and Tonnellerie Remond in the same sentence, besides which it would have not influenced me in the slightest. Dujac is Burgundy and yours truly makes wine in the New World. Vive le difference!!!
Jeremy,
I don’t recall ever being told that Dujac uses the barrels. If I was, then I certainly wasn’t told that there was a Dujac-type barrel. We’ve been buying Remonds for 13 or so years.
