TNs: Two tasty Matrot Burgs

  • 2006 Thierry et Pascale Matrot Chardonnay Bourgogne Blanc - France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc (11/28/2009)
12.5% alcohol. Simple and delicious, with apple and pear on the nose, tinged with minerals. In the mouth, just a terrifically pure expression of Chardonnay. Perhaps a bit simple but so enjoyable. You don’t find many wines like this that just let the grape speak so beautifully – and for a terrific price. B+
  • 2005 Thierry et Pascale Matrot Monthélie - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Monthélie (11/26/2009)
13.0% alcohol. This is absolutely delightful and drinking gorgeously. Pure cherry color. Gorgeous nose of red cherry and minerals, with a floral hint. In the mouth, this is just an absolutely sumptuous expression of red cherry. It’s gorgeous, plush, and tasty. Bright acidity. Long finish. This is like drinking cherry juice. I can’t get enough of it. A-

Thanks Tom,

I’m a fan of the whites but have had very little experience with the reds.

The Monthelie took me by surprise. It really was delicious. Perhaps simple, but this expressed red cherry fruit so beautifully …
