TNs: Thusday night Burgundy: '15 Guffens Heynen, '15 Bachelet Charmes Chambertin, '21 Lignier, '22 Bachelet

Some notes on a nice lineup of wines last night with my Berserker neighbor @Steve_McL who played host. Nice to have just a few good wines to slowly work through over the course of a night/meal. The Bachelet CC was really showing off last night. Much better than the '08 and '09 we had last year.

  • 2015 Domaine Denis Bachelet Charmes-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru (6/13/2025)
Can't ask for much more from Charmes Chambertin. Bachelet is the king here for a reason. Gorgeous bottle of wine. Super silky- sexy- red fruits in waves. Pedigree. Absolutely purity. Oak has mostly integrated. Youthful, but open. Not tertiary yet, but that's ok. So Fine. )
  • 2015 Guffens-Heynen Mâcon-Pierreclos Premier Jus de Chavigne - France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Mâcon-Pierreclos (6/13/2025)
Youthful yellow hue. Flinty- slight matchstick nose. Like GH can be- this is uber rich and detailed- tropical fruit - mouth-coating glycerin/viscosity- this wine is not a wallflower. it gets everyone's attention with a 'whoa what is this?' i don't know that it screams burgundian typicity, but it is quite a ride. Still young with a lot of power in reserve. JMGH is a wizard.
  • 2021 Hubert Lignier Gevrey-Chambertin Les Seuvrées - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin (6/13/2025)
Still showing it's youth, perhaps shutting down a bit. Fresh berry, a bit of licorice. 21s not showing the solar fruit as young '22s for me right now. Good length, it's a well-made wine with great textures and balance. Needs time.
  • 2022 Domaine Denis Bachelet Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin (6/13/2025)
An oops bottle, opened by mistake, but quite a joy. I love where the shiny 22 fruit is right now. Fleshy cherry and sweet spice. So easy to drink. Silky. Some saline on the palate and finish. Very fine village wine.

Not surprised your Bachelet outperformed an 08 and 09. 2009 in particular was a bad period for them. Barrel issues, IIRC. Lots of bottles that tasted like stale cigarettes.

Nice notes. Opened 2022 Guffens-Heynen Premier Jus de Chavigne and it was so raw it was like a shot of Mescal. Gunsmoke and vibrating acidity. Great wine but wish I had cellared it for 5 years.
