  • 2005 Maison Champy Mâcon-Uchizy - France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Mâcon-Uchizy (11/23/2009)
13.0% alcohol. Clean and pure nose of slate, apple, pear, and a touch of lemon zest. In the mouth, balanced and elegant, with clearly delineated flavors and excellent balance. Smooth all the way, with acidity that enhances the effect. Solid finish. B+
  • 2005 Simonnet-Febvre Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons - France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru (11/23/2009)
13.0% alcohol. Superb, bright and pure, with grace and concentration. Lovely bouquet of stony apple fruit and minerals. In the mouth, expands across the palate superbly, with plenty of fruit and layers of mineral-laced complexity. Terrific and drinking very well right now. A-
  • 2005 Thierry et Pascale Matrot Chardonnay Bourgogne Blanc - France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc (11/22/2009)
12.5% alcohol. Simple and pleasing, a wine that has purity of expression and true character and delivers terrific value. Light yellow color. Charming nose of minerals and and sweet and green apple. In the mouth, racy but rounded, with loads of fruit and a good mineral and acidic interplay. Solid finish. Just fun to drink. B+
