TNs: Solid Saturday night (Copain, Zepaltas, Siduri, Selyem)

  • 2006 Copain Pinot Noir Cerise Vineyard - USA, California, North Coast, Anderson Valley (12/12/2009)
13.6% alcohol. Just feeling a check on the 06 Copains was in order, and this didn’t disappoint. Black cherry color. Luscious bouquet of exceptionally pure black cherry, blackberry, damp earth, and spice. In the mouth, a laser-like wine but also gentle and caressing on the palate. Terrific texture, with loads of cherry fruit, earthy notes, some spice, and bright acidity. Terrific finish. A-
  • 2006 Zepaltas Pinot Noir Suacci - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (12/12/2009)
14.0% alcohol. Light red color. Aromatic nose of backing spice and black cherry. In the mouth, racy, with bright acidity, which is a terrific hallmark of this vineyard. Black cherry fruit and baking spice supports, with mineral notes lingering. Solid finish. A-
  • 2007 Williams Selyem Zinfandel Papera Vineyard Russian River Valley - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (12/12/2009)
14.8% alcohol. Classic Selyem Zinfandel. Bright red color. Spicy, almost jammy nose of black fruit. In the mouth, briary fruit carries the day, with beautiful purity and concentration, a solid acidic kick, and a smooth, lingering finish. Drinking beautifully now. A-
  • 2008 Siduri Pinot Noir Sonoma County - USA, California, Sonoma County (12/12/2009)
14.1% alcohol. An exceptional effort here from a more challenging vintage. Siduri’s tremendous efforts during harvest 2008 really paid off here. Qualitatively, this is the equal of the excellent 2005, 2006, and 2007 of this wine. Red and black cherry jump out of the glass, with an earthy, almost floral note. In the mouth, gentle and very pretty, with fruit bursting forth, complemented by solid complexity. Good acidity and a juicy finish. This plain rocks. A-
