2007 Loring Clos Pepe
Damned if this wine doesnt need a lot of time still. Tight, not giving much. Smells of dark fruits with a slightly sulfuric smell? The palate was not giving at all. Tight. Opened up a little after two hours but I handed it off to another table that wanted to try it.
2004 Conn Valley Reserve Cab
My favorite wine that night. Nice smooth nose of cranberry and spices. A little BBQ and some earth. The palate was medium bodied and a bit dusty. Nice lenght.
2006 Turley Ueberroth
Sucked. Tart and weird. Not corked, not body at all. Bleh. 06 Turley has been a waste of money for me so far.
2006 Mollydooker COL
First bottle was terrible. Smelled and tasted of wet leather and a little cheesy. Something was wrong with this bottle. Second bottle was not off but it was still terrible. Fruit (which I liked well enough before) has fallen appart to leave booze behind. Kinda like a vodka and blueberry juice drink with way too much vodka. Bummer. Im an MD fan.
Loring works hard to make “drink now” wines. It’s Brian thing.
I’m not a Loring fan, but what nonsense thinking an 07 pinot doesn’t need more time. I was at one of his tasting in the Spring and the 07s shouldn’t be touched for at least a year.
I’m with Dave Tong. What’s this “still” nonsense. Is infantcide your middle name?
Gordon, piss off I can dish it and take it, no offense taken.
Now for the explanation. I bought 6 Clos Pepe, Ive been buying Brian’s wines since 04 I think? Ive never had a Loring that wasnt approachable in the first six months and Ive drank a lot of them. So, it was surprising to me that this one wasnt, even if it was an 07. Hence the “still.” I suppose I could have said “to be even drinkable.” And guess what, as soon as I get my hands on the 07 KBs (in storage) and 07 Seasmokes Im cracking a sonoma coast and a Southing and I will bitch if they are unapproachable
As for the 06 COL that was funny…Tex had offered me his remaining 06 and I said nah…I have 3 left…now Im glad. Dunno what Im going to do with the last one.
Posner…this set of TNs has had more views and responses than any set in the last six months. That was not my intention but HA!
I have four bottles of the 07 and one 06 put away. This definitely needs some air to fully develop (not years in the bottle), but once it does open up, I really like it. It is NOT an old world Pinot!
I learned of this “secret” site from a member who came over from the other site – is the ranting typical because it was frowned on over there?
Bruce, we started out as a group of banned and/or censored members of eBob. The ranting and bashing has died down quite a bit and we are our own brand now.
Welcome, and please feel free to contribute as much as you wish.
Bad news Dan, I still the 05 COL!
I know Tex…weird how we were on the opposide side of the argument last week huh? Well I have one more and god I hope its better. The second bottle was chilled even because I pulled it out of the cellar to convince myself there was something wrong with the first one and it was still boozy. AND I was hammered by then. Oh well, one to go…
