TNs: Mordoree CDP '05 + Mas Doix '04

Mas Doix Doix Costers de Vinas Viejas Priorat 2004:
This is a highly concentrated and densely packed wine. Exotic aromas dance off the glass- smoked meat, brambles-n-berries, black truffles, smashed pencil lead, kirsch and road tar. The palate is all that on steroids. The finish is explosive and lengthy. I rather enjoyed this wine but I feel like this wine really deserves three or four years of cellar time to be properly enjoyed. 94 points

Domaine de la Mordoree Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee de la Reine des Bois 2005:
Dense and rich, maddening aromas of violets, chocolate, sweet fruits and spice make this wine impossible to drink for a brief time- you just want to smell it! When you finally give in and try it you find black cherries, Asian spices, damp earth, violets and grilled meats playing together nicely. Silky and delicious but at the same time meaty and fleshy. Sweet! 95+ points

John, what’s the price point on that Mordoree? I remember drinking the whole line back in '97, and it was incredible back then with a great QPR as well. Love seeing Mordoree do well…very consistent it looks like. Do a mean Rose as well. Thanks for the notes.

It ranges from around $100 to $130 or so.

Their Liracs are some of the best around. And I agree they make a nice Rose. They make two in fact. Every few years they make another CDP called la Plume du Peintre which is rock star. They haven’t decided if they will make it in '07 yet but I think they will. Just tried the '07 Reine des Bois- will post notes on it too.
