TNs: Chartogne-Taillet Chemin de Reims, Rougeot St Romain and Gallety Cuvee Emma

  • NV Chartogne-Taillet Champagne Chemin de Reims - France, Champagne (11/8/2021)
2017 base, May 2021 disgorgement, no dosage information. 100% Chardonnay that gave it good cut and lots of ripe citrus yellow fruit, made in a more oxidative and powerful style. Still painfully young but I accidentally opened this, thought it was a 2013 base but got the wrong product from the merchant.
  • 2018 Domaine Rougeot Saint-Romain Combe Bazin - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Romain (11/8/2021)
Serious white from old vines. Fine use of oak to give some hazelnut aromas, good weight and a rounder texture to a wine from an unheralded region. Excellent finish for the level. Very impressed by his basic Bourgogne and this, time to try the Meursault bottlings.
  • 2016 Domaine Gallety Côtes du Vivarais Cuvée Emma - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Vivarais (11/8/2021)
Clearly southern Rhone. Purple and slightly inky fruit of cherries and liquorice. Deep but still elegant and textured without being too plummy. Bit of a sweet finish that was a little distracting for me.
