2003 Revana Cabernet Sauvignon - USA, California, Napa Valley, St. Helena (2/11/2010)
14.8% alcohol. Very tasty wine. Dark color. Pretty nose of smoke, cedar, black currant, and tobacco. In the mouth, big-boned but refined. The complexity is in a bit of a disjointed phase, but it’s got the fruit to carry it. Tannins are ripe and well integrated. A- -
2005 Freeman Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (2/11/2010)
14.1% alcohol. Drinking very well right now. Black cherry color. Pretty nose of black cherry, blackberry jam, earth, and baking spice. In the mouth, viscous and tasty, with a terrific cherry pie quality. Good earthy notes, some minerality, bright acidity, and a long finish. Excellent wine. A- -
2006 Carlisle Zinfandel Carlo’s Ranch - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (2/11/2010)
15.3% alcohol. Just a rocking bottle of wine. Spicy, peppery, and briary cloud around the fruit on the massive nose. In the mouth, pure, clean, concentrated, and delineated. A pleasure to drink. Just explodes in your mouth with power and no heavy handedness. A-/A -
2007 Turley Zinfandel Dogtown Vineyard - USA, California, Central Valley, Lodi (2/11/2010)
15.6% alcohol. Still youthful and quite tight, but a terrific example of spicy Zinfandel. This was peppery and spicy all the way on the nose, with a plush mouth feel that revealed tightly wound fruit that needs a bit of time to unfold. Good structure and not flabby, with no signs of heat on the finish. B+
