2019 Heymann-Lowenstein Schieferterrassen Ries

Very full floral aromatics–lilac, lavender among them. Very fresh and lifted nose. Palate is crisp, but there’s a real bitterness at the mid-back that is quite persistent—almost to make me think of horseradish. I’m fairly sure that time will smooth that out some, but it’s not too friendly right now.

2017 Nicholas Rossignol Volnay Fremiets

red berry scents give way to clear cherry and wild strawberry palate. While this didn’t have a lot of disctinctiveness on day 1, day 2 was a different story, with depth, chestnut touches and even a nip of cinnamon added in. Very nice Volnay, just make sure you air it out for a bit if you open it now.
