TNs: 2005 and 2006 Ketcham RRV

  • 2006 Ketcham Estate Pinot Noir Russian River Valley - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (10/29/2009)
14.6% alcohol. This is showing quite elegantly right now. It’s honestly seemingly delicate compared to the 2005. Took about 30 minutes to open up fully. Red cherry color. Aromatic nose of black cherry, baking spice, and an earthy floral note. In the mouth, plush in texture but light on its feet, with plenty of cherry fruit. A brief but noticeable hole in the middle palate, which seemed to come and go, like the ozone hole. Stronger acidity than the 2005 at this stage. Caressing finish that shows a trace of oak. Perhaps slightly awkward at the moment but very pretty. B+
  • 2005 Ketcham Estate Pinot Noir Russian River Valley - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (10/24/2009)
14.8% alcohol. Absolutely outstanding and probably drinking at its peak. Full red color with clear edges at the rim of the glass. Marvelous bouquet of black cherry and baking spice. Classic RRV expression. In the mouth, plush and velvety without being heavy-handed or plodding. Explodes with black cherry and plum fruit in the mouth, with excellent spice and a hint of minerals. Soft acidity and a long finish. This is just addictive. A-
