TNs: 05 Saxum Booker, 90 and 91 Montelena

The 90 Montelena had a soft nose of sweat, smoke and light dark fruits.
The palate was also light bodied with some underripe red berries and soy. Faint tannins and short finish. meh.

The 91 had a much more promising nose, smokier with black walnuts (88 and 89 showed this too recently) and fresh blackberry. The palate was a little dissapointing, underripe berries, lots of acid, some soy sauce. A little better than the 90 but still meh.

I thought my dissapointment would be wiped out when I popped the 06 Carlisle Cardiac Hill but it was corked! DNPIM CORKED. pileon

05 Saxum Booker. The Booker is usually my least favorite Saxum. Still it was my WOTN. The nose was full of ripe berries, plums and smoke. The palate was a little hollow but had nice doses of dark fruits and baking spices. Hefty tannins. I think this still could use a few years in the bottle. Good, not great wine.

Also had 09 MD Violinist which was drinkable on the colder side. Oak bomb when it warmed. and an 08 Boxer which was too boozy even for me.

Go Colts.

Where did you get the 90 & 91 Montelena’s? Have you stored them for years or recently purchased?

I got an 88 to 2002 vertical from a friend for charity 2 years ago. He had them for a long time.

We opened an 05 Saxum Booker on Fri night and it was awesome. I had it upon release a couple years ago and it was tight as anything, but with an hour decant, it was singing over the course of the evening.

Man Berto, you should have known those Monty’s would be lost on you. If you have anything else laying around like that be sure to inquire about trades. [wink.gif]

Hehehehe Im drinking the rest of that vertical slowly theres gotta be one Montelena I like between 91 and 2002 right? [diablo.gif]

Those that 90 should be rocking in about 10 years. Did you give it any air?

Not much to be honest…

'94 and '96 are outstanding wines.
