TNs: 01 Bea Sagrantino + two Garagiste cheapies...

  • 2007 Martorana Insolia Sicilia IGT - Italy, Sicily, Sicilia IGT (8/29/2009)
Bright lemon, light to mid bodied. Easy drinking quaffer styled wine, enjoyable for sure. Between it being a simple bottle and a plastic cork, drink up.
  • 2006 Mas Mudigliza Côtes du Roussillon Carino - France, Languedoc Roussillon, Roussillon, Côtes du Roussillon (8/29/2009)
Wildly overripe. Smells like raisins, brown sugar and alcohol. Stewed, porty, jammy fruit. Hot, no acidity, undrinkable for me.
  • 2001 Paolo Bea Sagrantino di Montefalco Secco - Italy, Umbria, Montefalco, Sagrantino di Montefalco (8/29/2009)
Heady and aromatic, bursting with spicebox, dried red fruits, hot dusty earth, hints of raisin, old wood and forest floor. Rich and penetrating on the palate but not overly dense. I wouldn’t call this closed, on the contrary it is extremely rewarding to drink now, but there are still a good shake of tannins that do clamp down a touch on the otherwise quite long finish. There’s no doubt this is a big wine but with the right food it sings. Fantastic and happy to have more.

Thanks for the note on the Bea. Only having a couple, I think i will wait a few more years though. Sounds like it is progressing on schedule.

Josh, you drink a lot of Italian wine for someone from California. [welldone.gif]

If you can find the 98 Bea SdM, it is drinking brilliantly now. A much more forward vintage.

I was actually surprised that it was as accessible as it was. No harm in drinking now by any means. I just reloaded on the 01 so I wanted to try one again. I still keep my eyes peeled for any of the 98-00’s…
