2008 Patricia Green Cellars Pinot Noir Reserve- USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley (11/15/2009)
On night one, very closed (duhh), medium bodied, bold fruit. Night 2 , the nose still showed primary fruit but added some blueberry, tea and mintiness. More earthy now, more aromatics. Ripe berries. Short finish at this stage in its evolution.
Goldilocks says the 06 bed was too soft and the 07 bed was too hard but this 08 is just right.
Yep, this is lovely but I won’t open another bottle for at least a year. (89 pts.)
Chris,
We usually go to McMinnville for Thanksgiving, but not this year, and I was just wondering if anyone had tasted Green’s '08. Thanks for the service to humanity.
I just ordered a case. Green is one of the few wines I would buy without tasting, because she has been consistent, and I liked the estate grapes when they were still Autumn Wind (although Green has taken the wine making to a higher level.)
It was a tough job but somebody had to do it. I’m glad I’ve got more and I can’t (but will) wait to try the vyd designates and the Notorious.
Of course my comment on the 06s and 07s was somewhat in jest. I like those vintages but 08 just seems like a step up. The 06 Torii Mor Hawk’s Nest Chahalem Mountains we had last night was tremendous, just rounding into a great spot in its development.
John,
Stop by Brick House on Saturday or Sunday. Doug is pouring both his 07 Dijonnais and his 08 Select, along with 08 Gamay and 07 Chardonnay (which is excellent). I’ll probably be pouring the Gamay…
You’re right Bob. I talked with Dick in early Sept. He said, at that time, the pinots hadn’t finished secondary malo, and he didn’t expect to bottle until Dec. Guess things changed. Talked with Diedre, Dick’s wife, a couple weeks ago on my 07 shipments( it was finally cool enough to ship). She told me the mailer for the 08s won’t go out for several months.
From his report, I guess Dick bottled earlier than he thought, and those that ordered futures go their shipments.
