TNR: Ducru Beaucaillou 1995

Anyone had this recently? What treatment did you give it prior to consumption?

Thanks in advance.

I opened two bottles last year, delicious wine. No crime to open now but this will continue to improve, one bottle showed better toward the end of the dinner and the other showed better on the 2nd day. I have yet to open any ‘95 First Growths but I suspect Ducru will give them a good run for the money.

Like Chiu Lin I have tried this twice recently.

This is my note posted on CT on Boxing Day.

I have tried this a few times over the last decade and often found it to be obstinately backward, showing only few glimpses of what lies ahead. Recently I released three from storage. Dark fruits, tobacco and secondary development, with an alluring cool fruited languid palate. It has residual tannins but has lost its previous austerity. Very classy, delightful, lush, yet understated palate. Fine finish. This is evolving into a magnificent wine. Virtue of a good Ducru is on the mid-palate. It has has a fair amount of power and density but it is delivered so seamlessly. With a wine like this you can understand why some regarded it as the Lafite of St-Julien. I took some 1986 Ducrus out at the same time, which are now drinking very well, and a wine I have always liked. But the 1995 is the better wine, better than the 1982 as well.

I had it last summer as well, similarly magnificent.

5 more years then? Only have 1.

Yes Kris if I only had one I would wait about five years. If I had a case I would tuck in now.

Btw ‘Feo’ Walcott doesn’t play for Arsenal anymore.
