TNR: Billecart Salmon rose 2010?

Has anyone had the “new” vintage rosé?

bumped

There’s a thread on here somewhere. BS didn’t declare a 2010 vintage for the Cuvee Elisabeth Salmon (my favorite Champagne of all at any price), so they sold a Brut Rose 2010 instead in a bottle that mostly looks like the Elisabeth Salmon and which WS Pro confuses for it in some instances, such that I had it lead me to a shop and I bought several.

Anyway, I’ve had it, and it’s good. Maybe not a good value at the price, and not as refined as Elisabeth Salmon, which I guess explains why they didn’t make it ES that year. A little sweeter, more obvious, less complex than the ES?

Hope that helps.

Chris, if it falls short of the Cuvee Elisabeth Salmon tasting experience, is it at least a “step up” tasting experience from the NV (which I like a lot, BTW) ?

The 2010 is a really delicious wine. Agree with Chris it’s a little bit sweeter/more forward than the CES, but I generally think the Billecart vintage wines and tete de cuvee are insanely good values. They deliver so much. The 2010 to me was a no-brainer and fun to drink.

I think so, but I haven’t had the regular NV in a few years. I think it’s got more fruit and flash than the NV?

@Blake_Brown posted this in one of his tasting notes threads:

From B-C website: “This is the Billecart-Salmon’s first ever vintage Brut Rosé release and consists of barrels of declassified Cuvée Elisabeth Salmon from the outstanding 2010 vintage; it is comprised of 55% Chardonnay from the grands crus Chouilly, Mesnil and Cramant and 45% Pinot Noir from Verzenay, Mareuil and Ludes; the red wine comes from ancient vines in the Valleofois vineyard just next to the Clos des Goisses in Mareuil”; our bottle was disgorged 6/22.

If you start here and scroll down, there are some assorted post about this wine

Casual champagne drinker here, but we had this for our family party a Tre Dita in Chicago and it didn’t really hit as well as we thought it would. Despite reserving four bottles of it, we only went through one before everyone migrated to 2012 Cristal.

I opened one in April. Good not great. Here’s my TN from Cellar Tracker.

April 27, 2024 - Pretty coppery salmon color with a fine mousse. Not as aromatic as I would have liked, but there are lovely smells of strawberry, red cherry, lemon custard, and baking bread. Much less fruit on the palate than on the nose. Plenty of flavors of chalk, violets and lavender, fresh bread that dominated the delicate fresh red fruit. The acidity is pleasantly high. And that is the perfect word for this wine- pleasant. Though perhaps not knock your socks off. I’m agnostic about aging this further.

I’m not unhappy that I have, I think, three more of these. I’m sure my wife and I will enjoy them.

But it’s not one I would probably recommend to others at its price point, and if you can find a good price somewhere on an Elisabeth Salmon, it’s worth the extra cost over this one. There is more precision, complexity and depth, to such a degree that it is worth the extra cost, I think.
