PURPLE and I flew to NYC to visit friends and attend a couple of offlines. The WinExiles crew stepped up to the plate just like the Yankees did and put together a wonderful evening of friends, wine and food. Besides ourselves obviously in attendance were Mr. & Mrs libbyg, Mrs. & Mr. CMAC, Mr. & Mrs Eugene-NJ, Agent Scully and ottoman along with all of his personality disorders.

Disgorged February 17, 2009. Normally I’d recommend this wine be layed down for at least a few years in the cellar but Brad Baker relayed this recent disgorgement is drinking really well early on so I decided to open a bottle.
Light yellow to yellow color in the glass, clear hue throughout with light, steady and fine beading. Absolutely stunning nose of cinnamon, potpourri, mixed fruits and a bit of earthiness. Full flavors of yellow pears, yellow apples and a dash of sherry on the medium to long finish. Bright acidity, full bodied. Drink now then lay down for the medium term. (93 pts.)

Garnet color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Tight nose giving way to notes of berries, black cherries, a bit of leather and a dash of underbrush. Flavors of black berries, black cherries and a hint of bitters. Continue to hold. Not rated because too young right now but does show some promising notes.

Dark garnet color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of leather, celery seed and black berries. Flavors of black berries, a bit of black cherry and a dash of plum. Medium to bright acidity, medium tannins and body. I’d continue to hold, especially in this format, because it seems to be emerging from shutdown. WIML rating is a guess based on where I think it’ll end up with more time in bottle. (91 pts.)
