Another great time with the usual suspects. Wines didn’t disappoint and the late night bottles were really enjoyable.
WEDNESDAY WITH COCHE AND GRIVOT AND A SURPRISE DRC + BIZOT APPEARANCE - (5/6/2026)
Opener
- 2002 Taittinger Champagne Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut - France, Champagne
PnP. Fully developed with all the goods. This is in the zone and there's no need to wait. Tertiary characteristics are emerging with lots of fruit and a touch of honey and marzipan.
Coche
- 2012 Coche-Dury Meursault 1er Cru Caillerets - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Double decant 3 hours. Incredible nose, textural and deep. Classic Coche reduction, but well integrated. Continued to blossom and gain steam over the next few hours. A truly special wine that wowed everyone. - 2022 Coche-Dury Meursault 1er Cru Caillerets - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Double decant 4 hours. Still quite reduced and tight. Needed another hour or two of air to start to come together. But lovely reduction and purity of fruit. Too young, but clearly a powerhouse in the making with all the goods.
Grivot
- 2001 Domaine Jean Grivot Richebourg - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru
Decant for an hour. Needed every minute and maybe more. Continued to open in the glass with all the classic Vosne spice and texture that you want. Extremely classic, charming, and beautiful. - 2009 Domaine Jean Grivot Richebourg - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru
Decant for an hour. Needed another couple of hours as it was quite dense on first pour. Lots of deep, black fruit. Enjoyable, but will be better with another decade plus.
At the Club
- 2003 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Richebourg - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru
PnP. A bit pruny on first pour, but blew off to reveal lovely purple fruits and DRC spice with a nice depth. Palate is extremely luscious and deep. Quite extraordinary given the vintage. Wouldn't wait to drink up, but still in a good place. - 2022 Domaine Bizot Echezeaux - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
PnP. Beautiful nose with rose petals and blue fruit. Textural wine with lots of depth. Palate was young and needs time to develop. A special wine.
