TN: Wednesday Night Rhônes

WEDNESDAY NIGHT RHÔNES - (12/4/2024)

A small group of friends gathered for an evening of excellent Rhônes and delicious cassoulet with plenty of great homemade bread to sop up the sauce from @Dennis_Atick. The wines were really strong, thanks to everyone for their generosity. It isn't often you get such an interesting range of top Northern Rhônes of a similar age together, we got a good sense of the producers. Thanks to our host and to @bradkaplan, @dcornutt, @RKatz, and @rob_klafter for another great evening.

A great night. Thank you so much for the invitation guys. I love Northern Rhône wines.and the interloper Clos R. The wines showed beautifully, especially the Jamet, Juge and Clos R. I do love Allemand.

Mike!
Thanks for the notes. Not much I can add. I’m with Don in loving that Allemand. Intensity without weight. Burgundian.
My Co-WOTN along with the Juge and Rougeard which were really special too. Not sure if the Gonon is just a bit grumpy right now, but it couldn’t play in the same field last night.
Good times again, guys.

I was lucky to have some of the Goodfellow left in my glass a couple hours in and it really started to show nicely with that air, picking up some butter popcorn notes and fleshing out nicely to balance the firm flint that was a bit overwhelming at first.

Looks like I picked the wrong night to not travel to Atlanta! Well done, lads.

Nicest of all was having mature or mature enough treasures. A delight of collecting.

Atlanta posse doing it right! Great notes on what looks like an excellent night. Dart throw that Randy brought the Schafer? Don’t know anything about Dethune so certainly appreciate the glowing review. Happy holidays to everyone down there.

Nice guess but wrong, the Shaefer was brought by @rob_klafter. It’s a blessing to have a group of good people who have made so many random weeknights truly special.

Very cool! Not sure how I missed this thread. I have a fair bit of these 2013s, so great reference point. I had a 2013 Reynard last year, definitely not ready. This is a vintage that needs time. Closer to 2010 in structure than other recent vintages like 2011, 12, 14 or 15.

I opened that Goodfellow Chard a few years ago, and the reduction was overwhelming. Sounds like it has started to resolve but still a ways to go.
