TN: Wednesday Echézeaux Tasting when the DRC Finished Second

Wonderful evening as always at one of our favorite spots. So much generosity among friends can’t be beat. Every wine showed beautifully even though it turns out it’s a root day.

  • 2002 Krug Champagne Vintage Brut - France, Champagne (2/26/2025)
PnP. Needed a bit of air to shine. Continued to get better and better throughout the evening. Bright and young but with the signature oxydative notes. A depth and a finish that drives on and on.
  • 2002 Salon Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut - France, Champagne (2/26/2025)
PnP. Tight and coiled on first pour. Started to open up but still young and acid forward. Needs more air for my preference but others loved it.
  • 2006 Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Pucelles - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru (2/26/2025)
PnP. Darker honey color. Nose was developed. Palate was fresher and layered. Others enjoyed this more.
  • 2007 Coche-Dury Meursault - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault (2/26/2025)
Blind. Signature Coche nose with a simplicity, which I called as Meursault. Tasted as a softer vintage, but much younger and I guessed 2015. Stunning and beautiful in every way. A wine you want to go back to over and over.
  • 1999 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Echezeaux - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru (2/26/2025)
Blind. Signature DRC nose but definitely showing some age. Palate was inviting and complete. Drinking beautifully, I guessed 06/07. Shocked to find 99 which I would have assumed to be much more linear and tannic. One of the palates of the night.
  • 2009 Emmanuel Rouget Echezeaux - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru (2/26/2025)
PnP. Showed the warmer vintage, drinking well now. Loved and depth and texture. 09s are in the zone but for how much longer?
  • 2010 Domaine Robert Arnoux / Arnoux-Lachaux Echezeaux - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru (2/26/2025)
PnP blind. Red fruit and full, definitely from a warmer vintage. Tannins are mostly resolved so has some age. Quality producer with some depth of flavor and a finish that lingers. Drinking really well right now.
  • 2011 Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg Echezeaux - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru (2/26/2025)
PnP. Surprising nose with dark fruits and no green. Palate was a bit lean, but enjoyable and layered. More air didn't improve the wine.
  • 2005 Domaine Dujac Echezeaux - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru (2/26/2025)
PnP. Layered and deep with a core of acidity and dark fruits. Incredibly open and inviting with additional air and a finish that lingers.
  • 2012 Domaine Dujac Echezeaux - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru (2/26/2025)
Double decanted 3 hours early. Wide open and beautiful with a softness on the front and and structure on the back end. In an outstanding spot right now.
  • 2014 Domaine Bizot Echezeaux - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru (2/26/2025)
PnP. Intoxicating nose, strawberry and menthol, sexy and sultry, but with a racy quality. Brings you back over and over you only need to sniff this wine to recognize the pedigree. Palate is layered and complex with a finish that drives on and on. Truly stupendous and one of the WOTN.

The Gerard Mugneret bottling has been sensationally good in my experience.

Terrific night of excellent wines. I love the Bizot and the DRC 99 Echezeaux. Shocked by the 2007 Coche Meursault. Very youthful wine and so good. Thanks Andrew!
