TN: Two StageLeft Reds '06...(short/boring)

Found these two the other day under some Christmas stuff:

  1. StageLeftCllrs TheBreadwinner CentralCoast (60% Syrah/18% Grenache/12% Mourvedre/10% PetiteSirah; 15.0%; www.StageLeftCellars.com) 2006: Very dark color w/ some bricking; very strong blackberry/boysenberry/Syrah/jammy Paso some spicy/peppery very ripe/jammy bit alcoholic nose; soft light tangy/metallic very ripe/Paso jammy/blackberry/boysenberry/Syrah slight peppery/spicy classic Paso/jammy flavor w/ light bit tangy tannins; very long ripe/bit alcoholic very strong boysenberry/blackberry/Syrah bit tobaccoy classic Paso/jammy rather soft finish w/ light soft/ripe tannins; a pretty classic Paso/overripe/jammy Syrah that’s not going anywhere.

  1. StageLeftCllrs Syrah CentralCoast (14.8%) PasoRobles 2006: Very dark color w/ light bricking; very strong blackberry/boysenberry/ripe Syrah bit alcoholic slight spicy/peppery light toasty/oak rather Paso/jammy nose; soft/ripe rich/lush/mouthfilling intense boysenberry/blackberry/Syrah slight peppery bit toasty/oak some tangy/metallic/drying out flavor w/ light tangy/drying tannins; long very ripe/jammy/boysenberry/blackberry/Syrah/licorice slight peppery some toasty/oak finish w/ light bitey/drying tannins; starting to dry out and clearly on the downside.

A wee BloodyPulpit:

  1. Both of these wines have that classic Paso/overripe/jammy character. The Syrah is starting to dry out but the blend is still holding on. Loads of overripe Paso fruit and not very interesting.
StageLeft is a wnry located in Oakland. I bought these two at the suggestion of Brian at WinesOnPiedmont. Since these, I haven’t tried any of their wines of late.
