TN: Two Harringtons...(short/boring)

Tried these two Harringtons before KC:

  1. Harrington Falanghina CalleriVnyd/SanBenitoCnty (13.0%) 2018: Med.gold color w/ some tiny bubbles (dissolved CO2?); strong melony/mango/peach/bit floral slight stony/chalky/rustic/earthy quite interesting nose; very tart/tangy/acidic/citric some mango/peach/lelony fairly rich/textured rather saline/savory bit earthy/stony/rustic flavor; very long some peach/mango/floral/melony quite tart/acidic/citric some earthy/rustic finish w/ slight signs of dissolved CO2; not a huge amount of fruit but shows some of the Campania-like rusticity; really will benefit from another yr in the btl; more fruit than Compania Falanghina much much the same stony/rustic character; quite an interesting white. $25.00

  1. Harrington CabFranc CedarCrestVnyd/MantonVlly/LassenPeak/TehamaCnty (13.5%; 97 cs) 2017: Very dark color; very strong blackcurranty/plummy/CabFranc bit herbal/licorice/pungent light pencilly/oak bit earthy beautiful nose; lghtly tart/tangy very strong blackcurranty/plummy/CabFranc/herbal/licorice light toasty/pencilly/oak slight earthy/dusty/root cellar rather rich/lush some complex flavor w/ some ripe/round/lush tannins; very long/lingering bit hard/tannic strong CabFranc/blackcurranty/plummy light toasty/oak some herbal/licorice/earthy finish w/ some ripe/round tannins; will benefit from several yrs of age; speaks strongly of herbal CabFranc and shows the classic MantonVlly terroir; quite a beautiful rendition of CabFranc. $30.00

A wee BloodyPulpit:

  1. CabFranc: We tasted this in early May:
  1. Harrington CabFranc CedarCrestVnyd/MantonVlly/LassenPeak/TehamaCnty (13.5%; 97 cs) 2017> : Dark color; bit
    reductive/pungent someherbal/CabFranc quite volitile/acetic light toasty/oak slight Loire-like very
interesting nose; rather volatile/pickle juice/acetic some CabFranc/herbal bit earthy/Loire-like/loamy bit
rustic hot/fumey/burning flavor w/ light tannins; long very volatile/acetic/fumey slight herbal/CabFranc
finish w/ light tannins; way too volatile/acetic/hot/fumey/EA to tell much about this wine. $30.00

This btl was a replacement btl Bryan sent me. When we tasted the first btl, I was flummoxed because I’ve never had a flawed btl from Bryan. These were two distinctively different wines. What happened to the first btl…I have no idea. Can’t believe a leaky cork would result in this high VA level. Probably the best thing is to blame KenZinns for not properly sanitizing the hose that fed into this first btl. That’s it…let’s blame Ken!! There goes his bonus for the year!!
Tom

I have it on good authority that the Harrington cellar crew are among the best dang sanitizers in the business, we live to clean stuff. Bit uppity at times, though.

I’m also a fan of the Falanghina.

Full disclosure, I’ve been part of the cellar crew for a number of years.

It’s common knowledge that bad bottles are always my fault! Even if it’s someone else’s wine! [wink.gif]

Thanks for posting your notes, Tom. [cheers.gif]
