TN: Tablas Creek Esprit Blanc de Tablas '14....(short/boring)

Tried this TablasCreek from the archives a few days ago:

  1. TablasCreekVnyd Esprit Blanc de Tablas Estate/AdelaidaDist/PasoRobles (13.5%; 72% Rouss/23% GrenacheBlanc/5% PicpoulBlanc; EB) TablasCreekVnyd/PasoRobles 2014: Med.dark gold color; strong nutty/toasted hazelnuts strong Rouss/honeyed/honey grahams strong floral/honeysuckle rather old Hermitage bit pencilly/oak quite complex beautiful nose; lightly tart very rich/lush strong Rouss/flral/honeysuckle bit GB/carnations light pencilly/oak rather Rhonish/blanc fairly nutty/honey grahams quite complex flavor; very long/lingering floral/nutty complex finish that tracks flavor; ; not quite the earthy/stony character of old Hermitage but an absolutely beautiful expression of a mature Calif Rhone blanc; one of the best EBdT I can recall haing; should go another 4-6 yrs.

  1. I was really impressed by the EBdT and thought it one of the better ones I’ve had. However, leaving it out on the counter overnight, it had lost all that beautiful NRhoneBlanc character and turned into a very strong much simpler Rouss.

Tom,

Great note - one of my favorite of the wines they make.

Quick question - how much was left of the bottle that you left overnight?

Cheers

My thoughts:

Tuesday, May 14, 2024 - Medium light gold. Nose of apple, pear and pineapple. A tiny bit of oxidation, one would expect. Dry textured mouthfeel, baked apple and pineapple. The finish is smooth but dry.

I think this showed very well. It rewarded the effort to hold a few more years.

I really enjoy these wines.

Just a little over half the btl. Cork stuck back in the btl.
