TN: Sunday Night Wines - Leviathan, Chapoutier & Tor Kenward

  • 2005 Leviathan - USA, California, Napa Valley (2/14/2010)
Decanted one hour, enjoyed over two. Nice deep color. Classic flavors of cassis, black cherry, milk chocolate. Very smooth and rich mouthfeel. Long finish. An easy drinking Napa Bordeaux blend.
  • 1998 M. Chapoutier Coteaux d’Aix-en-Provence Beates d’Or - France, Provence, Coteaux d’Aix-en-Provence (2/14/2010)
Decanted one hour, enjoyed with a meal of pan-seared bone-in veal chops with a brown marsala sauce accompanied by wild mushroom risotto. What a fantastic combination this was. Beautifully fragrant nose. Ripe bing cherries, cloves, allspice. Wonderful balance of fruit, earth, spice and acidity. The finish was long, complex and completely satisfying.
  • 2007 Tor Rock Kenward Family Napa Cuvée Susan - USA, California, Napa Valley (2/14/2010)
Popped and poured, enjoyed over two hours. Big, rich, earthy, smoky, this wine is a great combination of Howell Mountain brute force and Hudson Vineyards complexity. Very enjoyable now, give it a year and it will be even better.
