TN: Solminer Rubellite Syrah '13...(short/boring)

Needed a red last night, so cracked:

  1. Solminer Rubellite Syrah deLandaVnyd/LosOlivos/SantaYnezVlly (13.4%; 144 cs; www.Solminer.com) Lompoc 2013: Med.light color; light earthy/dusty bright/spicy/floral/violets rather fragrant nose; fairly tart light earthy/dusty light bright/floral/violets/Syrah slight metallic/tangy flavor w/ light tangy tannins; long bit earthy/dusty bright/violets/floral/Syrah rather tart/lean finish w/ light brittle tannins; a rather tart/pretty/floral Syrah but not showing much evolution; still on the tight/lean side. $30.00

A wee BloodyPulpit:

  1. Solminer: This is the wnry of David & Anna deLaski, on the eastern edge of the town of LosOlivos. With an Austrian background, they make Gruner/Riesling/Blaufrankisch; all of which are very good. They make their Syrahs in a leaner style. I was hoping several yrs of age would bring some development to this wine. But it still is on the lean/pinched side of Syrah. Would like a bit more richness.

Nice! There is a strong likelihood I stop into their Tasting Room this Friday.

Great, Brian…the deLaskis are great people and they (as is Graham Tatomer) are making some outstanding Austrian-style wines.
