We had some neighbors over for the holidays. I brought out some standards in our household:
-
2005 Bodega Dominio Buenavista / Veleta Cabernet Sauvignon - Spain, Andalucía, Vino de la Tierra Contraviesa Alpujarra (12/22/2010)
Wow, this is really in a good place. I have not had one in a while. There is still a whiff of oak on the nose, but the cassis dominates the charcoal notes and the fresh hewned lumber is gone. Perhaps a slight vanilla note. The palate is delicious, young and vibrant showing mostly cassis with a few layers of tobacco. I have a few left and if I had more, this would be my house wine for the next year. That said, I think it is still a few years from maturity. (92 pts.) -
2008 Sineann Riesling - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley (12/22/2010)
I have always liked thier Rieslings. Often sweeter, this is one of the driest versions that I can recall. Grerat nose with some peaches and apricots. The palate turns much more mineral driven, also a break from the fruitier past vintages. Lots of complexity. Full texture. This went great with the food. Should age well too. (91 pts.) -
2009 Sineann Red Table Wine - USA, Oregon (12/22/2010)
Very nice showing for this wine. Served at Neighborhood Holiday party and the bottle was a big hit. Easy to drink. Nice fruit. (90 pts.)
